Kentucky Military History Museum photograph collection, 1850-1992 (bulk 1900-1992).

The museum's photograph collection consists primarily of twentieth century prints from the personal collections of various Kentucky soldiers. Some of the larger collections are from the following individuals: Frank K. Burgess, William R. Buster, Daniel M. Carrell, George M. Chescheir, R. R. Goetzmann, Joseph R. Gray, Neal O. Hammon, Field Harris, Anthony S. Jouskey, Charles W. Quiggins, Charles Settles, Pearl Smyth, and Manlius Rupert "Bud" Stewart. Subjects typically include training and other activities at Kentucky National Guard and United States Army bases such as Camp Zachary Taylor, in Louisville, and Fort Knox. Civil War era photographs include cartes-de-visite portraits of Confederate officers and images of the Kentucky Capital Guards, stationed in Frankfort during the war. Other nineteenth century images depict the Phillipines during the Spanish-American War. Early twentieth century photographs include some from the border dispute with Mexico (1916-1917), and World War I era photographs including those of a ballooning company. The strength of the collection lies in its World War II era images which include photographs from the Pacific Theater, including Japan; photographs taken on board the USS MONTPELIER; and a photograph album belonging to a member of the Women's Army Corps. Korean War photogaphs include those taken on board the USS HELENA. Vietnam era photographs are also present.
